In the constellation Cepheus, the Elephant's Trunk Nebula is an emission nebula. Look toward the Garnet Star (Mu Cephei) to find this deep-sky object. IC 1396 is a significantly larger region of ionized gas that contains the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. A very bright, massive star (HD 206267), positioned near to the east of IC 1396A, is illuminating and ionizing the dense cloud's surface, which is seen as the bright rim. I manage to take this picture with a bit less than 12 hours of integration time. For a higher-resolution image: https://astrob.in/81k1yi/0/
